Why Aerial and Ground Videography Work Best Together

Anyone can hire a drone operator or a videographer separately — but combining both is where the magic happens.

Storytelling Power

Switching from sweeping aerials to tight ground-level shots gives your video a dynamic, cinematic feel.
It makes your story more immersive and visually exciting.

Consistent Visual Style

When the same team handles both aerial and ground footage, your video will have a consistent look and feel, from lighting and colour grading to pacing and composition.

Efficiency

Coordinating separate drone and ground teams often leads to duplicated costs, miscommunications, and delays.
With Flying Glass, everything is streamlined — we plan flights and ground shots together for maximum efficiency.

CASA-Certified Drone Operations in Sydney

At Flying Glass, we don’t just fly drones — we fly them legally and safely.

Our pilots hold full Remote Pilot Licences (RePL) and operate under a Remote Operator’s Certificate (ReOC).

We’re insured, approved for operations over people (OONP), and trained for complex environments including:

  • Urban filming (near buildings and crowds)
  • Night operations
  • Restricted airspace (with CASA approvals)

When you hire a videographer Sydney team through Flying Glass, you know every part of the shoot is compliant — no surprises, no shutdowns.

Book a Sydney Harbour Boat Shoot

Sydney Harbour Boat Shoot Drone Filming

A Sydney Harbour boat shoot is one of the most visually powerful aerial filming opportunities in Australia, but it is also one of the most challenging. Boats move fast. Light changes quickly. Wind, water, reflections, marine traffic and airspace restrictions all affect the shot. There are often limited retakes, especially when filming cruise ships, race starts, live events or one-off harbour moments.

Flying Glass provides specialist drone cinematography for Sydney Harbour boat shoots, marine productions and water-based filming. We work with production companies, TV crews, advertising agencies, tourism brands, cruise lines, yacht owners, event producers and commercial clients who need polished, legal and reliable aerial footage on Sydney Harbour.

Whether you need to film a superyacht passing the Opera House, a cruise ship entering Circular Quay, a powerboat at speed, a yacht race, a tourism campaign, a live broadcast or a luxury marine commercial, Flying Glass brings the experience, approvals, aircraft and marine coordination required to deliver.

For yacht, vessel and water-based productions outside Sydney Harbour, Flying Glass also provides marine drone filming across Australia for superyachts, cruise ships, sailing, commercial vessels, television and branded campaigns.

Marine filming is one specialist application within our broader filming drone services, combining high-end aerial cinematography with the approvals, aircraft and production experience required for complex shoots.

Why Choose Flying Glass for a Sydney Harbour Boat Shoot?

Not every drone company can handle a Sydney Harbour boat shoot. Harbour filming requires a rare combination of aviation skill, cinematic judgement, marine coordination and local operational knowledge.

Flying Glass brings:

  • 10+ years of Sydney Harbour filming experience
  • 100+ cruise ships, superyachts and commercial vessels filmed
  • Experience across TV, film, commercials, tourism, live events and marine campaigns
  • Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race drone filming experience
  • Existing harbour approval pathways and CASA-aware planning
  • Trusted chase boat, barge and marine support partners
  • High-speed drone tracking for moving vessels
  • Inspire 3, Mavic 3 Pro Cine and FPV drone capability
  • Experienced Sydney-based crews who understand the harbour

If your Sydney Harbour boat shoot needs to look cinematic, stay compliant and run smoothly on the water, Flying Glass is built for the job.

Sydney Harbour Drone Filming for Boats, Yachts and Marine Productions

Sydney Harbour drone filming is about more than capturing a wide aerial of the water. A strong marine sequence needs movement, timing, tracking, scale and context. The drone must work with the vessel, not simply hover above it.

Flying Glass can capture:

  • High-speed tracking shots of powerboats and chase vessels
  • Luxury yacht hero shots
  • Superyacht arrivals and departures
  • Cruise ship aerials around Circular Quay
  • Sydney Harbour tourism footage
  • Boat-to-boat action sequences
  • Marine brand commercials
  • Yacht race starts and finishes
  • Live event coverage from the harbour
  • Drone footage from barges, boats and shore-based launch points

For each Sydney Harbour boat shoot, we plan the aircraft, lens, flight path, launch position, marine coordination and safety approach around the creative brief.

Expert Drone Filming From Water

Drone filming from water requires a different skillset from land-based drone work. The launch point may be moving. The subject may be moving. The drone, boat, camera team and director all need to stay coordinated while conditions change around them.

Flying Glass has extensive experience working from boats, barges and harbour vantage points. We can advise whether your Sydney Harbour boat shoot is best captured from land, from a chase boat, from a barge or from a combination of positions.

For marine shoots, we consider:

  • Vessel speed and direction
  • Drone launch and recovery options
  • Wind and water conditions
  • Sun angle and reflections
  • Marine traffic
  • Communication between drone crew and captain
  • Emergency landing options
  • Shot timing and retake opportunities
  • Safety zones around boats, crew and public areas

These details matter. A Sydney Harbour boat shoot may only have one chance to capture the moment, so planning is critical.

No Unnecessary CASA Delays

Sydney Harbour is a complex operating environment. Many drone operators underestimate the approval and planning requirements involved in harbour filming, which can delay or compromise a production.

Flying Glass has extensive Sydney Harbour experience and established approval pathways for many harbour operations. This allows us to move quickly, identify requirements early and avoid unnecessary CASA delays wherever possible.

Some Sydney Harbour boat shoot scenarios still require site-specific planning, stakeholder coordination or timing considerations. However, because Flying Glass works regularly in this environment, we can give productions clear advice early in the process.

Our goal is simple: help your production understand what is possible, what approvals may be needed and how to capture the shot legally, safely and efficiently.

For a broader overview of our harbour-wide filming capability, approvals and location experience, see our Sydney Harbour drone filming service.

Why Drone Services Are Essential for a Sydney Harbour Boat Shoot

Filming boats from the air gives productions a perspective that is difficult or impossible to achieve from shore, onboard cameras or helicopters. Drone cinematography can move with the vessel, reveal its position in the harbour and capture the relationship between the boat, the skyline, the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and the water.

Drone services are particularly valuable for a Sydney Harbour boat shoot because they can provide:

    • Dynamic tracking: following yachts, cruise ships, powerboats and racing vessels in motion.
    • Iconic context: placing the vessel against Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, Circular Quay or Barangaroo.
    • Flexible camera movement: creating sweeping reveals, overhead passes, pullbacks and chase shots.
    • Lower-cost aerials: delivering cinematic aerial coverage without the scale and cost of helicopter operations.
    • Close production integration: working with directors, DOPs, marine coordinators and captains.

For many productions, a drone is the best way to show the speed, scale and beauty of a vessel on Sydney Harbour.

The Challenges of Filming Boats on Sydney Harbour

A Sydney Harbour boat shoot can look effortless on screen, but the operational reality is complex.

Key challenges include:

  • Fast-moving subjects: superyachts, powerboats, ferries and racing vessels may change speed and direction quickly.
  • Changing light: glare, reflections, cloud movement and low-angle sun can alter the shot within minutes.
  • Wind and water: harbour conditions affect drone handling, boat movement and shot stability.
  • Marine traffic: ferries, private boats, cruise ships, yachts and commercial vessels need to be considered.
  • Regulatory restrictions: airspace, public areas, vessel movement and harbour rules may affect the operation.
  • Limited retakes: race starts, ship movements and live events often happen once.
  • Communication: drone crew, production crew, vessel crew and marine support must stay aligned.

Flying Glass understands these challenges because we have filmed in this environment for years. We know how to plan a Sydney Harbour boat shoot so the creative outcome is achievable on the day.

Our Sydney Harbour Boat Shoot Experience

Flying Glass has worked on some of the most demanding Sydney Harbour drone filming projects in the industry. Our harbour experience spans cruise ships, superyachts, live events, tourism campaigns, TV shows, commercials, water-based action and major public events.

That experience gives productions confidence. When a vessel only passes the Opera House once, or a harbour event runs on a strict timeline, you need a drone team that can capture the shot without hesitation.

Cruise Ship Drone Cinematography

Flying Glass has filmed more than 40 cruise ships arriving, departing and moving through Sydney Harbour. Cruise ship drone filming requires timing, scale and careful positioning. The drone must show the vessel clearly while also capturing the harbour context that makes Sydney so recognisable.

We can provide cruise ship drone cinematography for:

  • Luxury travel campaigns
  • Cruise line marketing
  • Tourism content
  • Live arrivals and departures
  • Media and PR coverage
  • Commercial campaigns

Superyacht and Luxury Yacht Drone Filming

Luxury yacht and superyacht filming requires a premium visual style. The footage needs to communicate scale, design, movement and lifestyle. A Sydney Harbour boat shoot for a superyacht may involve tracking alongside the vessel, revealing the skyline, capturing deck details or creating elegant hero shots for marketing.

Flying Glass can coordinate drone operations with captains, chase boats, production teams and marine support to capture polished yacht footage on Sydney Harbour.

Sydney to Hobart and Yacht Race Filming

Sydney Harbour is home to some of Australia’s most iconic marine events, including the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. Race filming is high pressure because timing is fixed, vessels are moving, crowds are present and the harbour is busy.

Flying Glass has experience with Sydney to Hobart drone filming and understands the level of preparation required for yacht race coverage. A race environment is not the place for a generic drone operator. It requires planning, communication and confidence around moving vessels.

Reality TV, Feature Films and Commercials

Sydney Harbour is a prime location for television, feature films, commercials, reality TV challenges and high-end branded content. Flying Glass provides drone cinematography for productions that need boats, water, skyline and action captured beautifully.

Our marine drone filming can support:

  • Scripted scenes involving boats
  • Reality TV challenges on the water
  • Commercial hero shots
  • Luxury lifestyle sequences
  • Tourism campaigns
  • Brand films
  • Live event packages

Red Bull and Extreme Sports on the Water

High-energy water-based projects require fast reaction, precise tracking and excellent spatial awareness. Flying Glass has experience filming high-adrenaline events and action sequences, including Red Bull-style extreme sports environments.

For these shoots, the drone needs to move with speed and confidence while staying safe, stable and usable for the edit.

Sydney NYE and Live Events on the Harbour

Sydney Harbour live events are globally recognisable. From New Year’s Eve fireworks to major public celebrations, harbour events demand careful drone planning and strong production coordination.

Flying Glass can support live event drone filming where the harbour, vessels, crowds, fireworks, performers or broadcast requirements are part of the brief.

Sydney Harbour boat shoot drone filming for cruise ship and marine production

The Flying Glass Advantage for Sydney Harbour Boat Shoots

A successful Sydney Harbour boat shoot depends on preparation, gear, permissions, marine coordination and the ability to adapt quickly. Flying Glass brings all of these elements together.

1. Existing Harbour Knowledge and Approval Pathways

We regularly plan drone filming on and around Sydney Harbour. That means we can identify approval requirements quickly, advise on realistic timelines and help productions avoid unnecessary delays.

2. The Right Boats and Barges for the Job

Sometimes the best drone shot depends on where the drone crew is positioned. Flying Glass works with trusted marine partners who can provide chase boats, stable barges, support vessels and other water-based options where required.

Marine support can be useful for:

  • High-speed tracking shots
  • Boat-to-boat filming
  • Harbour event coverage
  • Crew positioning
  • Drone launch and recovery
  • Director or client monitoring

3. High-End Drone Cinematography

Flying Glass operates professional drone systems suited to high-end production work.

Our aircraft options include Inspire 3, Mavic 3 Pro Cine, custom FPV drones and specialist systems where required.

We can deliver:

  • 8K RAW and ProRes workflows
  • Cinematic lens options
  • High-speed boat tracking
  • Stabilised aerial footage
  • FPV-style motion where appropriate
  • Broadcast-ready aerial coverage
  • Monitor feeds for production teams

4. Production-Aware Drone Crew

Flying Glass crews understand production environments. We can work with directors, DOPs, producers, marine coordinators, captains, safety teams and event managers. We know how to communicate clearly, hit the shot and stay calm under pressure.

Best Sydney Harbour Boat Shoot Locations and Angles

With more than a decade of harbour filming experience, Flying Glass knows where Sydney Harbour boat shoots look their best. The right angle depends on the vessel, light, tide, traffic, skyline and creative brief.

Popular Sydney Harbour boat shoot locations and backdrops include:

  • Sydney Opera House and Circular Quay: ideal for cruise ships, superyachts, tourism campaigns and iconic Sydney context.
  • Sydney Harbour Bridge: dramatic tracking shots, bridge reveals and large-scale harbour movement.
  • Barangaroo and Darling Harbour: modern city backdrops for commercial and corporate campaigns.
  • Manly and North Head: open-water movement, coastal scale and arrivals from the ocean.
  • Watsons Bay: premium harbour lifestyle visuals and elegant marine sequences.
  • Cockatoo Island and Goat Island: textured industrial and heritage backdrops for cinematic work.
  • Middle Harbour: calmer waters and refined yacht visuals where suitable.

We can advise on the best location and time of day for your Sydney Harbour boat shoot based on the look you want to achieve.

Sydney Harbour Boat Shoot Planning Checklist

The earlier Flying Glass is involved, the more effectively we can shape the aerial plan. For a Sydney Harbour boat shoot, it helps to know:

  • The vessel type and size
  • The planned route or operating area
  • The desired landmarks or backdrops
  • The shoot date and time window
  • Whether the vessel is moving or stationary
  • Whether the drone crew needs to launch from land, boat or barge
  • Whether talent, crew or public areas are involved
  • Whether live broadcast, social content or cinematic footage is required
  • Whether approvals, permits or stakeholder coordination are already underway

From there, we can recommend aircraft, crew, approval pathways, marine support and a practical shooting plan.

Why Experience Matters on Sydney Harbour

Experience matters because Sydney Harbour does not give you unlimited chances. A cruise ship departure, yacht race start, superyacht arrival or live event moment may only happen once. The drone operator needs to know where to be, when to launch and how to stay safe while capturing the shot.

Flying Glass brings the level of preparation and confidence that high-stakes harbour productions require. We know the harbour, we understand marine movement and we have the aerial cinematography experience to make the footage feel premium.

OONP Operations Over or Near People Drones CASA Australia

Need help with OONP approval in Australia?

Flying Glass helps Australian drone operators navigate OONP, or Operations Over or Near People. We hold CASA-approved OONP capability ourselves, and we help other ReOC holders submit their own OONP applications, involving building practical safety cases, selecting suitable aircraft and parachute systems, and understanding what CASA expects before they apply.

Whether you need Flying Glass to carry out an OONP flight for you, or you want help securing your own OONP approval, we can guide you through the process with real-world operational experience.

OONP Approval Australia: Fly Over or Near People Safely and Legally

OONP stands for Operations Over or Near People. In Australia, OONP is one of the most tightly controlled areas of commercial drone operation. That is because flying near people, or directly over people, creates a very different risk profile from a normal drone job in an empty paddock, closed site or controlled area.

For many drone operators, OONP approval is the difference between turning down valuable work and being able to take on higher-value commercial jobs. Events, television productions, public activations, city filming, construction sites, emergency response work and busy commercial environments often involve people on the ground. Without the right approval, those jobs can become difficult, restricted or impossible.

Flying Glass was among the early Australian commercial drone operators to obtain OONP approval. We have used that experience on real productions, real sites and real risk assessments. We now support other operators through our drone consultancy services, helping them understand whether OONP is achievable, what evidence they may need, and how to present a stronger application to CASA.

What Does OONP Mean?

OONP means Operations Over or Near People. In practical terms, it covers drone operations where the aircraft may be flown close to, or over, people who are not protected from the risk of the aircraft.

This can include people who are:

  • Members of the public at an event, activation or public location.
  • Workers on an active site who are not directly involved in controlling the drone.
  • Talent, athletes or performers being filmed.
  • People who have given consent but are still exposed to operational risk.
  • People who have not given consent and are simply present in the operating area.

CASA’s public guidance makes it clear that, in general, you must not fly a drone closer than 30 metres to people who are not essential to controlling or navigating the drone. CASA also states that you must not fly over a person unless an exception or approval applies. This is why OONP approval matters so much for commercial drone operators working in real-world environments.

Why OONP Is So Important for Commercial Drone Operators

Many drone businesses reach a point where standard permissions are not enough. You might have a ReOC, experienced pilots, good procedures and strong clients, but still find yourself limited by the 30 metre rule, consent requirements or the inability to fly over people.

OONP approval can open the door to work such as:

    • Film and television: filming talent, crowds, public streets, event sites and urban locations.
    • Commercial campaigns: capturing brand activations, launches, public spaces and promotional shoots.
    • Live events: filming festivals, races, ceremonies, concerts, sporting events and crowd environments.
    • Construction and infrastructure: operating near workers, active machinery and busy sites without shutting everything down.
    • Emergency response and disaster work: supporting teams where people may be present in complex operating areas.
    • Surveying and inspection: working in urban or semi-public environments where exclusion zones are difficult.

OONP is not just a compliance upgrade. It can be a commercial advantage. Operators who can legally and safely fly where others cannot are often more useful to producers, agencies, government clients, infrastructure teams and event organisers.

Two Ways Flying Glass Can Help With OONP

Flying Glass supports OONP work in two practical ways:

  • We can complete the OONP flight for you, using our own approved capability, experienced crew and compliant procedures.
  • We can help you apply for your own OONP approval, including safety case support, parachute guidance, application preparation and CASA liaison.

This means you can either solve an immediate job requirement or build long-term OONP capability inside your own drone business.

Discuss Your OONP Requirements

Flying Glass: Real OONP Experience, Not Just Theory

OONP is not an area where you want generic advice. A weak application, poor documentation or unrealistic operating concept can waste time, trigger further CASA questions, or result in an approval that does not actually support the jobs you want to do.

Flying Glass has practical OONP experience from both sides. We understand the operational realities of flying near people, and we understand the documentation burden required to support a higher-risk application. That combination matters.

Our background includes high-end drone cinematography for television, film, commercials, events and complex public environments. We are used to working around producers, directors, safety teams, public land managers, government stakeholders and aviation regulators. That experience helps us build OONP strategies that are practical, defensible and commercially useful.

What an OONP Approval May Allow

Every OONP approval is specific. It is not a blank cheque to fly anywhere, over anyone, in any conditions. CASA may approve particular aircraft, operating scenarios, height limits, crew procedures, parachute systems, emergency procedures and risk controls.

Depending on your application and CASA’s assessment, an OONP approval may address:

  • The specific drones or RPAS you are permitted to use.
  • The operating conditions attached to the approval.
  • Whether a parachute recovery system is required.
  • Minimum operating heights or separation distances.
  • Requirements for crew briefing, consent, exclusion zones or spotters.
  • Emergency procedures and post-incident response.
  • Maintenance, testing and documentation obligations.

This is why the planning stage matters. Before applying for OONP approval, you need to understand what you actually want to do. A vague application for “flying over people” is much weaker than a specific, well-supported operating concept with a clear risk case.

OONP and the 30 Metre Rule

The 30 metre rule is one of the key reasons operators search for OONP help. In Australia, drone operators generally need to keep at least 30 metres away from people who are not essential to controlling or navigating the drone. CASA measures this from the point on the ground directly below the drone, not simply from the aircraft in the air.

There are some circumstances where ReOC holders may operate closer than 30 metres, but no closer than 15 metres, if the relevant conditions are met and the person provides consent. However, if you want to operate closer than those limits, or operate near people without consent, you may need CASA approval.

For many commercial jobs, this distinction is crucial. A film shoot with performers, a public event, a construction site, a footpath, a beach, a harbour location or a CBD environment may quickly push a normal drone operation into OONP territory.

Do You Need OONP Approval?

You may need OONP approval if your drone operation involves flying:

  • Over people.
  • Within 30 metres of people who are not essential to the operation.
  • Closer than 15 metres to people, even with consent.
  • Near members of the public where consent cannot realistically be obtained.
  • At events, activations, streets, beaches, parks, construction sites or busy commercial areas.
  • In a way that could create an unreasonable risk to people or property.

If you are unsure, it is worth getting advice before quoting the job, accepting the brief or submitting an application. OONP questions are often easier to solve early than after a client has locked dates, locations and expectations.

Need an OONP Flight Done Now?

Flying Glass can help. If you do not yet hold OONP approval, we may be able to complete the flight for you using our own approved capability, compliant procedures and experienced crew.

This can be ideal for urgent TV shoots, commercial campaigns, public events, activations, government projects or complex filming jobs where waiting for your own OONP application is not practical.

What Is Involved in Getting OONP Approval?

OONP approval is not a simple form-filling exercise. CASA needs to understand the risk, the aircraft, the safety systems, the crew, the operating environment and the procedures that will keep people on the ground safe.

A strong OONP application may include:

  1. Operational concept: a clear explanation of what you want to do, where you want to do it and why OONP approval is required.
  2. Aircraft selection: evidence that the drone is suitable for the proposed OONP operation.
  3. Parachute or risk mitigation strategy: details of any parachute system, containment measure, procedures or other safety controls.
  4. Operational Safety Case: a structured explanation of hazards, risks, mitigations, residual risk and emergency response.
  5. Procedures: crew roles, briefings, pre-flight checks, maintenance, incident response and site controls.
  6. Evidence: supporting documentation, testing records, manuals, specifications, training records and other material.
  7. CASA submission: a complete application that gives CASA enough information to assess the proposed operation.

Flying Glass helps operators make sense of this process. We can support the whole OONP application or provide targeted assistance with the areas causing the most difficulty.

Parachutes and OONP Compliance

Parachutes are a major part of many OONP conversations, but they need to be considered properly. A parachute system is not just an accessory. It must be suitable for the aircraft, the operation and the safety case.

For OONP applications, parachute considerations may include:

  • Whether a parachute is required for the proposed operation.
  • Whether a suitable system exists for the drone you want to use.
  • Installation requirements and compatibility.
  • Manufacturer documentation and system limitations.
  • Deployment height and effectiveness.
  • Maintenance, inspection and testing requirements.
  • How the parachute fits into the wider Operational Safety Case.

Flying Glass can help you assess parachute options for your OONP application. We can also help you understand the operational implications before you spend money on hardware that may not suit your approval pathway.

OONP Operations Over or Near People Drones CASA Australia

OONP for Film, TV and Commercial Shoots

Film and television work is one of the clearest use cases for OONP approval. Productions often need drones to operate around cast, crew, vehicles, public spaces, roads, event sites or active locations. Standard separation rules can make the shot difficult or impossible.

Flying Glass has extensive experience in drone cinematography for television, film and commercials. We understand that the shot matters, but so does the approval, safety plan, crew briefing and production workflow. OONP capability can help productions capture more dynamic shots while still working within a compliant safety framework.

If your production needs aerial filming near people, Flying Glass can either provide the drone crew or advise your team on the OONP requirements for the job.

Our specialist OONP capability supports suitable live-event and production work, including FPV drone Melbourne projects where close-proximity filming around performers, athletes or controlled event environments is central to the creative brief.

OONP for Events and Public Activations

Events are another common reason operators need OONP support. Public events are rarely empty, predictable or easy to fully control. Even with good planning, there may be attendees, performers, staff, contractors, media teams and members of the public within the operating environment.

OONP planning for events may need to consider:

  • Crowd layout and movement.
  • Take-off and landing areas.
  • Emergency landing options.
  • Spotters and ground crew.
  • Barriers, exclusion zones and signage.
  • Consent and communication.
  • Coordination with event organisers, security and site managers.

Flying Glass can help event organisers and drone operators understand whether OONP approval is needed, what risk controls may be required and how to plan the operation safely.

Flying Glass also designs and operates complete drone brand activations and PR stunts, combining complex aviation approvals with custom payload systems, branded aircraft and live event execution.

For complex projects where the drone also carries a purpose-built payload, release system or specialist equipment, Flying Glass can combine OONP planning with custom drone payload integration and project-specific R&D.

Our OONP capability is particularly valuable for drone live broadcast projects at concerts, sporting events and other environments where the best aerial perspectives may be close to controlled participants or event personnel.

OONP for Construction, Infrastructure and Urban Sites

Construction and infrastructure sites often involve workers, contractors, vehicles, machinery and nearby public areas. A normal drone flight can quickly become an OONP issue if workers are present, access cannot be fully controlled or the drone needs to operate close to people.

For construction and infrastructure work, OONP approval may support:

  • Progress filming on active sites.
  • Inspection work near workers or public boundaries.
  • Urban surveying where separation is difficult.
  • Infrastructure documentation around roads, bridges or public spaces.
  • Emergency or incident response where people may remain nearby.

Flying Glass can help operators and project teams assess the site, identify risks and decide whether OONP approval or an approved external operator is the best path.

Flying Glass OONP Consultancy Services

Our OONP consultancy services are designed for Australian drone operators who want practical, experienced support. We do not simply hand you a generic template and leave you to work it out. We help you understand the operational logic behind the application.

Flying Glass can assist with:

  • Initial OONP assessment: understanding what you want to do and whether OONP approval is likely to be required.
  • Application strategy: deciding what type of operation, aircraft and safety controls to present.
  • Operational Safety Case support: building a structured, practical and defensible safety case.
  • Parachute guidance: helping you understand suitable systems, limitations and documentation needs.
  • Procedure development: crew roles, emergency procedures, site controls and operating practices.
  • CASA liaison support: helping you respond to questions and prepare stronger supporting material.
  • Audit and renewal preparation: reviewing your OONP documentation after approval is granted.
  • Operational mentoring: helping your crew understand how OONP work differs from standard drone operations.

For operators expanding into other advanced operating models, Flying Glass also provides support for BVLOS operations and approvals, including operational planning, documentation and pathways for Beyond Visual Line of Sight capability.

Why OONP Applications Fail or Stall

Many OONP applications run into trouble because the operator underestimates the level of detail required. CASA is assessing risk to people on the ground, so the application needs to do more than say the pilot is experienced or the drone is reliable.

Common OONP problems include:

  • The proposed operation is too vague.
  • The drone is not suitable for the intended risk profile.
  • The parachute evidence is incomplete or poorly explained.
  • The Operational Safety Case is generic.
  • The operator has not explained how people will be protected.
  • The procedures do not match the proposed real-world operation.
  • The application does not clearly address emergency scenarios.
  • The operator asks for broad approval without enough supporting evidence.

Flying Glass helps you avoid these problems by approaching OONP from an operational perspective first. We look at what you need to achieve, what risk that creates and what evidence is needed to support the application.

Should You Apply for OONP Approval or Hire an Approved Operator?

Not every business needs its own OONP approval immediately. In some cases, hiring an approved operator is faster, simpler and more cost-effective. In other cases, building your own OONP capability makes commercial sense.

You may be better off hiring Flying Glass for the OONP flight if:

  • The job is urgent.
  • You only need OONP capability occasionally.
  • The client needs a compliant result quickly.
  • You do not yet have the right aircraft, parachute or procedures.
  • You want to avoid delaying the shoot while an application is assessed.

You may be better off applying for your own OONP approval if:

  • You regularly turn down work because of people on site.
  • You want to offer higher-value drone services.
  • You have a ReOC and want to expand your operational capability.
  • You are investing in compliant aircraft and safety systems.
  • You want a long-term competitive advantage.

If you are not sure which option is right, Flying Glass can help you make a practical decision before you invest time or money in the wrong direction.

We Make OONP Easier to Understand

OONP approval can feel overwhelming, especially when you are dealing with CASA terminology, parachute documentation, safety cases and client deadlines at the same time.

Flying Glass gives you clear, practical guidance from people who understand both commercial drone work and the reality of operating near people.

Start Your OONP Approval Today

OONP Approval and CASA Documentation

CASA’s approach to OONP is risk-based. Your application needs to show that you understand the hazards and have suitable controls in place. That usually means your documentation needs to be clear, specific and consistent.

Useful OONP documentation may include:

  • Operational Safety Case.
  • Risk assessment.
  • Aircraft specifications.
  • Parachute documentation, where applicable.
  • Operations manual updates.
  • Emergency procedures.
  • Crew training records.
  • Maintenance and inspection procedures.
  • Site assessment process.
  • Consent and briefing process, where relevant.

Flying Glass can help you identify documentation gaps before your application goes in. This can reduce rework and make your OONP submission easier for CASA to assess.

ReOC holders wanting to develop their own advanced capability can also engage Flying Glass for outsourced Chief Remote Pilot support, including operational governance and assistance introducing complex operations into an existing drone program.

What Makes a Strong OONP Safety Case?

A strong OONP safety case does not simply list risks. It explains how the operation works, what can go wrong, what controls are in place and why the remaining risk is acceptable.

For OONP, your safety case should usually consider:

  • Aircraft failure.
  • Loss of control link.
  • Navigation or positioning error.
  • Battery or power failure.
  • Parachute deployment limitations.
  • People entering the operating area.
  • Weather and wind effects.
  • Pilot workload.
  • Crew communication.
  • Emergency landing or containment options.

Flying Glass can help turn these issues into a practical, readable OONP safety case that reflects the way your team actually operates.

Do I need a parachute for OONP?

A parachute is often an important part of an OONP approval pathway, but the requirement depends on the aircraft, operation and safety case. Flying Glass can help you assess whether a parachute system is suitable and what documentation may be needed.

Is OONP only for large drone companies?

No. OONP approval can be relevant to solo operators, small drone businesses, production companies, enterprise teams and specialist operators. The key issue is whether the operation can be supported by a strong safety case and appropriate controls.

Ready to Discuss OONP?

If you are serious about flying drones over or near people, the best next step is to get advice before you apply, quote or commit to a client. OONP can unlock valuable work, but it needs to be approached carefully.

Flying Glass offers a professional drone for hire service where every operation is conducted by an experienced and fully licensed drone operator. Here’s why choosing Flying Glass for your drone hire needs is the best decision you can make.

1. Expert Drone Operators with Extensive Experience

At Flying Glass, we pride ourselves on our team of highly skilled drone operators. Each member of our team brings years of experience in flying drones across various industries, including film, TV, real estate, construction, and environmental monitoring. Our operators are not just drone pilots; they are experts in capturing the perfect shot, conducting precise surveys, and ensuring every project meets the highest standards. Why It Matters: Experience counts when it comes to drone operations. An experienced operator can anticipate and mitigate risks, navigate complex environments, and deliver the best possible results. With Flying Glass, you’re hiring more than just a drone; you’re hiring a professional who knows how to get the job done right.

2. Full Compliance with CASA Regulations

Operating a drone in Australia comes with strict legal requirements, governed by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). At Flying Glass, we ensure full compliance with all CASA regulations. Our operators hold the necessary Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) and operate under a Remote Operator’s Certificate (ReOC), which means every flight is conducted legally and safely. Why It Matters: Legal compliance isn’t optional; it’s mandatory. By using Flying Glass drone for hire, you avoid the legal pitfalls that can come with unlicensed operators or DIY drone rentals. Our additional CASA instruments also allow us to undertake specialised operations that many of our competitors simply can’t legally perform.

3. Fully Insuranced for Peace of Mind

Accidents can happen, even with the best operators. That’s why Flying Glass is fully insured, providing coverage for both public liability and property damage. This means that in the unlikely event of an incident, you’re fully protected. Why It Matters: Hiring an uninsured operator is a risk no client should take. With Flying Glass, you can rest assured that any potential risks are fully covered, protecting you from unexpected costs or legal issues.

4. Advanced Equipment and Technology

Flying Glass uses the latest drone technology to ensure that we can deliver the highest quality results. Our fleet includes drones equipped with high-resolution cameras, thermal imaging capabilities, and advanced sensors, allowing us to tackle a wide range of projects with precision and efficiency. Whether you’re looking for aerial photography, 3D mapping, or environmental monitoring, our team will work closely with you to ensure that the service you receive is perfectly suited to your project’s requirements. Why It Matters: A one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work for drone operations. At Flying Glass, we take the time to understand your project’s goals and challenges, providing a customised solution that delivers the best possible outcomes.

How Flying Glass Stands Out from the Competition

While there are many options available when searching for a drone for hire, Flying Glass distinguishes itself through our commitment to excellence, safety, and legal compliance. Here’s how we compare to other drone hire services:

1. Single Operator vs. Experienced Team

Many competitors offer drone for hire services by listing individual pilots on their websites. While this might seem convenient, it often means that the quality and consistency of service can vary. At Flying Glass, you’re not just hiring an individual; you’re hiring a team. Our operators collaborate on projects, bringing collective expertise and ensuring that every operation is executed to the highest standard. The Advantage: A cohesive team brings together a wealth of knowledge and experience, ensuring that no aspect of your project is overlooked. With Flying Glass, you benefit from the combined skills and insights of multiple professionals.

2. CASA Instruments for Specialised Operations

Flying Glass holds additional CASA instruments that allow us to perform operations beyond the capabilities of many of our competitors. This includes flying in restricted airspace, conducting night operations, and operating in challenging environments where others cannot legally venture. The Advantage: Our advanced permissions mean that we can take on complex jobs that other operators simply cannot. Whether it’s a high-risk construction site or a sensitive environmental survey, Flying Glass has the legal and technical capability to get the job done.

3. Superior Quality and Attention to Detail

When you use our drone for hire service, you’re guaranteed a level of quality and attention to detail that is unmatched. We take pride in our work, ensuring that every image, video, or survey is of the highest standard. Our operators meticulously plan each flight, considering factors like lighting, weather, and angles to capture the perfect shot. The Advantage: Details matter, and the difference between a good result and a great one often comes down to the operator’s expertise. With Flying Glass, you’re choosing a service that values perfection and consistently delivers outstanding results.

4. Transparent Pricing with No Hidden Costs

One of the challenges clients face when using a drone for hire package is understanding the full cost upfront. At Flying Glass, we believe in transparency. Our pricing is clear and straightforward, with no hidden fees or unexpected charges. You’ll know exactly what to expect from the start, allowing you to budget confidently for your project. The Advantage: Hidden costs can turn a seemingly affordable service into a costly affair. With Flying Glass, what you see is what you get—high-quality service at a fair price, with full transparency.

5. A Proven Track Record of Success

Flying Glass has a proven track record of delivering exceptional results across various industries. Our portfolio includes high-profile projects in film, television, real estate, construction, and environmental monitoring. We’re proud of the reputation we’ve built and the trust we’ve earned from our clients. The Advantage: Experience and proven success are invaluable when choosing a drone hire service. The Risks of Hiring Inexperienced Operators

While there are many drone operators available with a drone for hire offering, not all offer the same level of service, expertise, or legal compliance. Here are some risks associated with hiring less experienced or unlicensed operators:

1. Legal and Safety Risks

Operating a drone without the proper licences or insurance is illegal and unsafe. Unlicensed operators may not be aware of the regulations they need to follow, leading to legal complications for both the operator and the client. This can include fines, legal action, and in severe cases, criminal charges.

2. Poor Quality Results

Inexperienced operators may lack the skills needed to capture high-quality footage or data. This can result in subpar results that do not meet the client’s expectations or project requirements. Poor quality can also stem from using outdated equipment or failing to consider important factors like lighting, weather, or camera angles.

3. Lack of Insurance

Hiring an uninsured operator is a significant risk. If an accident occurs, the client may be held liable for damages, leading to substantial financial losses. Insured operators, like those at Flying Glass, provide a safety net, ensuring that any incidents are covered.

How to engage Flying Glass for your drone for hire service

Hiring drones with a professional operator from Flying Glass is a straightforward process:

  1. Consultation: Start by contacting us to discuss your project. We’ll listen to your needs, offer advice, and tailor a solution that meets your specific drone for hire requirements.
  2. Proposal: After our initial consultation, we’ll provide you with a detailed proposal outlining the scope of the project, costs, and timeline.
  3. Execution: Once you approve the proposal, our team will schedule the operation. Our experienced operators will handle everything, ensuring that your project is completed to the highest standards.
  4. Delivery: After the operation, we’ll deliver the results in the format you need, whether that’s high-resolution images, video, or data.

With Flying Glass, you’re not just hiring drones; you’re hiring a team of experiences, renowned professionals dedicated to delivering exceptional aerial results.

Drone with Pilot Services UAV Operator Pilot Australia Flying Glass

In today’s fast-paced world, drones have become indispensable tools across various industries, from film and television to real estate, construction, and environmental monitoring. However, the key to unlocking the full potential of drone technology lies not just in the equipment itself but in the expertise of the person operating it. When you hire a drone with pilot from Flying Glass, you’re investing in much more than just state-of-the-art technology—you’re securing the skill, precision, and legal assurance that only a professional operator can provide.

The Value of Expertise in Drone Operations

At first glance, the idea of hiring a drone might seem straightforward—simply rent the equipment and start flying. However, the reality is far more complex. The successful execution of any aerial project requires a deep understanding of not only the drone’s capabilities but also the environment in which it operates. This is where the expertise of a professional pilot becomes invaluable – you need the services of a drone with pilot. A drone with pilot from Flying Glass brings years of experience to the table. Our pilots have honed their skills across diverse projects, navigating challenging terrains, weather conditions, and regulatory landscapes to deliver precise, high-quality results. This expertise ensures that every flight is meticulously planned and executed, minimising risks and maximising the potential of the drone. Whether you’re capturing sweeping aerial shots for a film, conducting a detailed survey of a construction site, or monitoring environmental changes in a remote area, the skill of the pilot is what sets apart a good result from an outstanding one. Our pilots understand the intricacies of aerial photography and videography, the importance of timing, and the impact of lighting and angles. They know how to position the drone to capture the perfect shot, all while ensuring safety and compliance with legal regulations.

Navigating the Legal Landscape with Confidence

Operating a drone in Australia is not as simple as picking up a remote control and taking to the skies. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has established strict regulations governing drone operations, and these rules are in place for good reason. Safety is paramount, and compliance with these regulations is mandatory to avoid legal repercussions. When you hire a drone with pilot from Flying Glass, you’re not just hiring a skilled operator—you’re hiring someone who is fully licensed and trained to navigate the legal complexities of drone operations. Our pilots hold the necessary Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) and operate under a Remote Operator’s Certificate (ReOC), ensuring that every flight is conducted within the bounds of the law. This legal expertise is particularly crucial when operating in restricted airspace, near populated areas, or during night-time operations. Flying Glass has obtained additional CASA instruments that allow us to undertake specialised tasks that many other operators simply cannot. This includes conducting operations in controlled airspace, flying beyond visual line-of-sight (BVLOS), and handling sensitive projects that require a higher level of regulatory compliance.

Why Experience and Insurance Matter

One of the most significant risks of hiring an inexperienced operator or renting a drone without a pilot is the potential for accidents. Even the most advanced drones can malfunction, and when this happens, the consequences can be severe—both in terms of safety and financial liability. This is why it’s essential to ensure that any drone operation is fully insured. At Flying Glass, we understand the importance of covering all bases. Our services come with comprehensive insurance, providing protection against public liability and property damage. This means that in the unlikely event of an incident, you’re fully covered, and the risk to your project and reputation is minimised. Experience plays a critical role in preventing such incidents. Our pilots have encountered and overcome a wide range of challenges in the field, from sudden weather changes to unexpected obstacles. This experience allows them to make informed decisions in real-time, ensuring that every flight is as safe as possible. By hiring a drone with pilot from Flying Glass, you’re entrusting your project to professionals who know how to manage risks effectively.

The Advantages of Cutting-Edge Technology

Technology is at the heart of what we do at Flying Glass, but it’s the combination of advanced equipment and skilled piloting that truly sets us apart. Our fleet of drones is equipped with the latest in aerial imaging technology, including high-resolution cameras, thermal imaging, and advanced sensors. This technology allows us to deliver unparalleled results across a wide range of applications. However, the most sophisticated drone is only as good as the person operating it. A drone with pilot ensures that this technology is used to its full potential. Our pilots are trained to leverage the capabilities of our drones, whether it’s capturing stunning aerial footage for a commercial, conducting precise measurements for a survey, or monitoring environmental conditions with pinpoint accuracy. Moreover, our pilots are adept at troubleshooting and maintaining the equipment, ensuring that it operates smoothly throughout the project. This attention to detail minimises downtime and ensures that your project stays on schedule.

Customised Solutions for Unique Projects

No two projects are the same, and this is especially true when it comes to drone operations. At Flying Glass, we understand that each project has its own set of challenges, requirements, and goals. That’s why we offer customised solutions tailored to meet the specific needs of your project. When you hire a drone with pilot from Flying Glass, you’re not getting a one-size-fits-all service. Instead, we take the time to understand your project’s objectives, the environment in which we’ll be operating, and any potential obstacles that may arise. This personalised approach allows us to plan and execute a drone operation that is perfectly aligned with your needs. Whether you’re working in the film industry and need cinematic aerial shots, in real estate and require detailed property surveys, or in construction and need accurate mapping and measurements, our team has the expertise and technology to deliver. We collaborate closely with you throughout the process, ensuring that the final results exceed your expectations.

Why Flying Glass is the Trusted Choice

The decision to hire a drone with pilot is one that should not be taken lightly. The stakes are high, and the quality of the results can have a significant impact on your project’s success. At Flying Glass, we have built a reputation for excellence in the industry, earning the trust of clients across various sectors. Our commitment to quality, safety, and legal compliance is unwavering. We don’t just meet the minimum standards—we exceed them. Our team is continuously training and staying updated on the latest advancements in drone technology and regulations, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of the industry. But don’t just take our word for it—our track record speaks for itself. As a drone with pilot we’ve successfully completed projects for major film and television productions, high-profile real estate developments, and critical environmental monitoring initiatives. Our clients return to us time and time again because they know they can rely on Flying Glass for professional, high-quality, and legally compliant drone services.

The Risks of Going It Alone

In a world where drones are becoming increasingly accessible, it might be tempting to rent a drone and attempt to handle the operation yourself. However, this approach comes with significant risks. Without the necessary training, experience, and legal knowledge, you’re likely to encounter challenges that could jeopardise your project. Operating a drone without a pilot can lead to poor-quality results, legal complications, and even accidents. The learning curve for drone operation is steep, and without proper guidance, you may struggle to achieve the desired outcomes. Additionally, without a pilot, you’re solely responsible for any legal infractions or damages that occur during the operation. Hiring a drone with pilot from Flying Glass eliminates these risks. You’re not just renting a drone—you’re hiring a professional who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to your project. This ensures that every aspect of the operation is handled with care and precision, from planning and execution to final delivery.

A Commitment to Client Satisfaction

At Flying Glass, we believe that the success of any project is measured by client satisfaction. We are dedicated to delivering results that not only meet but exceed your drone with pilot expectations. Our approach is client-focused, and we work closely with you to understand your vision and bring it to life. From the initial consultation to the final handover, we are committed to maintaining open communication and providing the highest level of service. Our pilots are not just operators—they are collaborators, working with you to ensure that your project is a success.

Conclusion: The Right Choice for Your Aerial Needs

Why Sydney is Perfect for Aerial Cinematography

Sydney is a city that blends modernity with natural beauty. From the sweeping curves of the Sydney Opera House to the majestic span of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the city’s architecture is world-renowned. The harbour itself, with its sparkling waters and bustling activity, is a focal point for any aerial shoot. Beyond the harbour, Sydney’s beaches, such as Bondi and Manly, offer dramatic coastal scenes, while its urban parks and historic districts provide rich contrasts in landscape and design. For filmmakers and commercial directors, these diverse settings make Sydney an ideal location for aerial cinematography. The ability to capture wide-angle shots, sweeping pans, and dynamic tracking shots with a drone adds a cinematic quality that is difficult to achieve with ground-based cameras alone. Whether you’re aiming to highlight the grandeur of Sydney’s landmarks or the intimate details of its neighbourhoods, a drone is the perfect tool to bring your vision to life.

Flying Glass: Your Go-To for Professional Drone Sydney Services

At Flying Glass, we understand the unique challenges and opportunities that come with filming in Sydney. Our team brings together decades of experience in aviation and cinematography, ensuring that every project is handled with the utmost professionalism and expertise. We offer a comprehensive drone Sydney service that is tailored to meet the specific needs of each client, whether you’re working on a major production or a smaller commercial shoot. One of the key advantages of working with Flying Glass is our in-depth knowledge of Sydney’s geography and airspace regulations. We regularly work in the most sought-after locations across the city, including Sydney Harbour, the Royal Botanic Garden, Darling Harbour, and the historic Rocks district. Our familiarity with these areas means that we can navigate the logistical challenges of filming in busy or restricted environments, ensuring that your shoot runs smoothly from start to finish.

Special Permissions and CASA Approvals for Drone Sydney Operations

Operating drones in a city as busy and regulated as Sydney requires more than just technical skill—it requires a deep understanding of the legal framework governing airspace use. At Flying Glass, we hold all the necessary approvals from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) to conduct drone Sydney operations in controlled and restricted airspace. This includes permissions to fly in the vicinity of Sydney’s major landmarks, such as the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and the bustling areas around Circular Quay. We also have approvals for night operations and the ability to fly in proximity to airports, including Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, under specific conditions. These permissions are essential for capturing the kind of dramatic, high-impact footage that many of our clients seek. Our team works closely with CASA to ensure that all our operations comply with the latest safety regulations. This not only protects our clients from legal complications but also ensures that every flight is conducted with the highest regard for public safety and airspace security. You won’t catch anyone shooting a drone down on one of our shoots!

Iconic Sydney Locations We Regularly Film

Sydney is a city of iconic locations, each offering its own unique challenges and rewards for aerial filming. At Flying Glass, we have extensive experience capturing footage across many of these sites, bringing Sydney’s beauty and vibrancy to screens around the world. Sydney Harbour: Perhaps the most recognisable location in Sydney, the harbour is a focal point for any aerial shoot. From the grandeur of the Sydney Opera House to the imposing structure of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, this area provides endless opportunities for stunning aerial footage. Our team has filmed countless projects in the harbour, capturing everything from the bustling activity of the ferries to the serene beauty of the harbour at sunrise. Bondi Beach: One of Australia’s most famous beaches, Bondi is a favourite location for filmmakers looking to capture the energy and vibrancy of Sydney’s coastal lifestyle. Our drones are regularly deployed to film the sweeping curves of the beach, the surf culture, and the stunning cliffside walks. Bondi’s unique combination of natural beauty and urban edge makes it a compelling subject for aerial cinematography. The Rocks: Steeped in history, The Rocks is one of Sydney’s oldest neighbourhoods. Its narrow streets, historic buildings, and close proximity to the harbour make it a fascinating location for drone filming. We’ve captured everything from intimate street scenes to wide-angle shots that showcase the area’s blend of old and new architecture. Royal Botanic Garden: Situated on the edge of Sydney Harbour, the Royal Botanic Garden offers a lush, green contrast to the city’s urban landscape. It’s a location that works beautifully for nature documentaries, tourism promotions, and any project that requires a touch of natural beauty. Our drones have filmed the garden’s diverse flora, its winding pathways, and the stunning views it offers of the harbour. Darling Harbour: As one of Sydney’s most popular entertainment districts, Darling Harbour is a dynamic location that is perfect for capturing the energy of the city. From the bustling crowds to the vibrant lights of the night-time skyline, our drones have captured it all. The area’s mix of modern architecture, water features, and public spaces makes it a versatile location for a wide range of projects.

The Importance of Safety and Compliance in Drone Sydney Operations

Safety is our top priority at Flying Glass, and this commitment is reflected in every aspect of our drone Sydney operations. From the initial planning stages to the final flight, we take every precaution to ensure that our operations are conducted safely and in full compliance with all relevant regulations. Before any flight, our team conducts a thorough risk assessment to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate them. This includes assessing weather conditions, the presence of obstacles such as buildings or trees, and the level of pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area. We also coordinate closely with local authorities to ensure that our operations do not interfere with other activities or events taking place in the area. Our commitment to safety extends to our equipment as well. We maintain a fleet of drones that are equipped with the latest technology, including GPS stabilisation, collision avoidance systems, and live streaming capabilities. This technology not only enhances the quality of our footage but also ensures that our drones can be operated safely in a variety of conditions.

Discuss Your Melbourne Project

Professional Drones Melbourne Services

There is a significant difference between owning a drone and providing professional commercial aerial services. Our Melbourne capability includes:

  • Film and television aerial cinematography
  • TV commercial and advertising drone filming
  • FPV drone filming
  • Automotive drone filming
  • Major events and live productions
  • Commercial drone photography
  • Property developer drone services
  • RLs and level-view photography
  • Construction progress photography and video
  • Construction drone videography
  • Drone mapping and photogrammetry
  • Infrastructure and asset imagery
  • Specialist CASA planning and complex drone operations

For projects extending beyond Victoria, our Melbourne crews are supported by Flying Glass’s broader commercial drone services capability across Australia.

Drones Melbourne professional services for film, TV, FPV, property development, construction, RLs and drone mapping across Victoria.

Drone Filming Melbourne for Film, TV and Commercial Productions

Professional aerial cinematography is one of the core reasons clients choose Flying Glass for drones Melbourne projects.

We work with production companies, directors, cinematographers, agencies and brands to design aerial shots around the creative brief rather than simply arriving and flying a standard set of movements.

For productions requiring specialist aerial cinematography, see our dedicated drone filming Melbourne service for film, television, TVCs, automotive campaigns and major productions across Victoria.

Our Melbourne drone crews can support:

  • Feature films
  • Television drama
  • Reality television
  • Documentaries and factual productions
  • Television network promos
  • TV commercials
  • Advertising campaigns
  • Automotive productions
  • Branded content
  • Tourism campaigns
  • Music videos
  • Sports productions
  • Major events

Depending on the shot, we can provide compact aircraft, professional cinema platforms, dedicated pilot and camera-operator teams or FPV systems.

Explore our dedicated filming drone services for our wider aerial-production capability.

Melbourne Drone Crews for TVCs and Advertising

Commercial productions often demand more than an attractive establishing shot. Automotive sequences, moving talent, tightly controlled timings and ambitious camera movement require experienced operators who understand professional production workflows.

Flying Glass provides drones Melbourne crews for advertising agencies, production companies and brands shooting campaigns throughout Victoria.

Our crews can work with directors and DPs during pre-production to consider:

  • Shot feasibility
  • Camera and lens requirements
  • Vehicle and talent movement
  • Location access
  • Airspace
  • Operating distances
  • Timing and light
  • Weather contingencies
  • Safety and CASA requirements

For this specialist capability, see our drone filming for commercials service.

FPV Drone Filming Melbourne

FPV provides a completely different visual language from conventional aerial cinematography. Instead of observing a location from above, an FPV aircraft can move dynamically through, around and alongside the action.

Our drones Melbourne team can provide specialist FPV filming for suitable productions involving:

  • Venues and buildings
  • Events
  • Automotive sequences
  • Talent and performers
  • Sports
  • Commercial campaigns
  • Tourism
  • Brand activations
  • Exterior-to-interior transitions where operationally appropriate

FPV sequences need careful planning because speed, proximity, obstacles and people can create operational complexity. Flying Glass can assess the intended route, aircraft requirements and safety considerations before filming.

For specialist close-proximity, event, automotive and venue work, see our dedicated FPV drone Melbourne service, including OONP capability for suitable operations around people.

See our specialist FPV drone services for more information on our Australia-wide FPV drone services.

Cinema Drones and Professional Camera Systems

Not every aerial shot should be captured with the same aircraft.

For high-end productions, our drones Melbourne capability can include professional cinema platforms and dual-operator workflows in which a dedicated pilot flies the aircraft while a separate camera operator controls framing and camera movement.

This provides directors and cinematographers with significantly greater control over composition and repeatability than a basic single-operator setup.

For projects requiring larger specialist payloads, Flying Glass also provides heavy lift cinema drone filming.

Local Melbourne Drone Crews

Flying Glass has experienced drone crews based in Melbourne. That means Victorian clients can access genuine local capability rather than automatically paying to mobilise an interstate crew for every project.

For recurring or time-sensitive drones Melbourne projects, local crewing can provide practical advantages including:

  • Reduced travel and mobilisation
  • Greater flexibility around weather
  • Easier location reconnaissance
  • Efficient support for multi-day shoots
  • Local knowledge of Victorian environments
  • Access to additional Flying Glass crew and equipment when required

The Melbourne team is backed by Flying Glass’s wider national operation, allowing larger projects to scale when additional pilots, camera operators, spotters, aircraft or specialist capability are required.

Drone Services for Melbourne Property Developers

Flying Glass provides much more than marketing photography for property-development clients.

Our drones Melbourne services can support developments from early planning and pre-sales through construction and final marketing.

Services can include:

  • RLs and level views
  • Future-view photography
  • Existing-condition aerial imagery
  • Construction progress photography
  • Construction videography
  • Aerial marketing footage
  • Context photography for architectural renders
  • Project completion photography and video
  • Drone mapping and photogrammetry where required

For a development that does not yet exist, aerial photography captured at proposed floor heights can help communicate future outlook and surrounding context.

For developments requiring future-view photography, render backgrounds or nominated-height capture, see our dedicated RLs and level views Melbourne service for developers, architects and visualisation teams.

Explore our dedicated drone services for property developers.

RLs and Level Views Melbourne

RL and level-view work is a specialist part of our Melbourne property capability.

Flying Glass can position an aircraft at required elevations to capture views that help developers, architects, marketers and project teams understand the outlook available from proposed building levels.

These drones Melbourne projects may be used to support:

  • Future-view photography
  • Development marketing
  • Sales campaigns
  • Architectural presentations
  • View analysis
  • Render backgrounds

For this service, see our dedicated drone RLs and level views page.

Drone Renders and Future Development Context

Accurate aerial imagery can also be captured specifically for integration into architectural renders and development visualisations.

Rather than relying on generic imagery, Flying Glass can capture location-specific perspectives at agreed positions and elevations so visualisation teams have real-world context for proposed buildings.

See our drone renders service for projects requiring aerial imagery for architectural visualisation.

Construction Drone Services Melbourne

Construction projects can use drones throughout the project lifecycle for documentation, stakeholder communication, progress records and marketing.

Flying Glass provides drones Melbourne support for builders, developers, project managers and construction teams throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria.

Depending on the project, capture may include:

  • Regular construction progress photography
  • Progress video
  • Milestone filming
  • Site overview imagery
  • Stakeholder updates
  • Marketing content
  • Completed-project aerials
  • Mapping and photogrammetry

For broader recurring construction support, see our construction drone services.

For polished project video specifically, see our construction drone videography service.

Drone Mapping and Photogrammetry in Melbourne

Some commercial projects require measurable aerial information rather than purely visual content.

Flying Glass can provide drones Melbourne capability for suitable mapping and reality-capture projects where accurate, systematic aerial imagery is required.

Potential outputs can include:

  • Orthomosaics
  • 3D models
  • Point clouds
  • Site documentation
  • Repeatable aerial datasets
  • High-resolution spatial imagery

See our drone mapping services and drone photogrammetry services for more information.

Drone Photography Melbourne

Professional aerial photography remains valuable for architecture, property, tourism, infrastructure, advertising and corporate communications.

Our Melbourne drone operators can capture both broad context and carefully composed detail, with the aircraft, lens, altitude and time of day selected around the intended use.

For clients searching broadly for drones Melbourne photography, Flying Glass can provide standalone still-image capture or integrate photography into a larger video, production or construction brief.

Melbourne Drone Operators for Events and Major Venues

Major events require a different level of operational planning from an empty landscape or private property.

People, restricted areas, security, venue management, public roads, broadcast requirements and airspace can all influence the feasibility of drone filming.

Flying Glass can provide drones Melbourne crews for suitable sporting events, live productions, festivals, concerts, public activations and major venues.

Where people are involved, the proposed operation should be assessed early so the appropriate aircraft, operating distances, exclusion areas and approvals can be considered.

Flemington Racecourse Drone Filming

Flying Glass holds blanket CASA approval for drone operations at Flemington Racecourse, providing a particularly valuable capability for suitable productions at one of Melbourne’s best-known sporting venues.

This can remove some of the uncertainty and lead time that may otherwise be associated with obtaining flight approvals for individual productions at the location.

Read more about our specialist Flemington drone filming capability.

CASA Approvals and Complex Melbourne Drone Operations

Melbourne presents a wide range of operational environments, from dense CBD locations and major venues to coastal areas, industrial sites and remote regional properties.

Professional drones Melbourne operations may need to consider:

  • Controlled airspace
  • Aerodromes
  • Helicopter operations
  • People and crowds
  • Public roads
  • Buildings
  • Private property
  • Venue requirements
  • Location permissions
  • Aircraft operating limitations
  • CASA approvals

Flying Glass assesses the proposed operation before confirming feasibility and can help production and commercial teams identify issues early rather than discovering them on the day of the shoot.

For projects requiring operations over or near people, see our specialist OONP drone operations capability.

Drones Melbourne CBD

Drone operations in Melbourne CBD can be considerably more complex than flights in open regional locations.

Airspace, roads, pedestrians, buildings, rooftop access, launch locations, property permissions and other aviation activity all need to be considered.

A CBD operation is therefore not something we confirm solely from a street address. Send us the intended location, shot, altitude and timing and our team can assess what may be possible.

Areas We Service Across Melbourne and Victoria

Our drones Melbourne crews can operate throughout metropolitan Melbourne and travel across Victoria for production and commercial projects.

Areas regularly within our service footprint include:

  • Melbourne CBD
  • Inner Melbourne
  • Eastern, western, northern and south-eastern suburbs
  • St Kilda and Port Phillip Bay
  • Mornington Peninsula
  • Yarra Valley
  • Dandenong Ranges
  • Geelong
  • Surf Coast
  • Great Ocean Road
  • Regional Victoria
  • Victorian alpine regions
  • Remote Victorian locations

Location alone does not determine whether a drone operation is possible. Each site is assessed according to its airspace, surroundings, required flight and relevant operational constraints.

Why Choose Flying Glass for Drones Melbourne Projects?

Clients choose Flying Glass when the aerial component matters to the project rather than simply because a drone is required.

Our drones Melbourne capability combines:

  • Melbourne-based crews for genuine local capability
  • Professional film and television experience
  • High-end aerial cinematography
  • FPV capability for dynamic and immersive filming
  • Dedicated pilot and camera-operator workflows
  • Property-development expertise including RLs and level views
  • Construction and mapping capability
  • Professional aircraft and camera systems
  • Complex operational planning
  • CASA approvals and specialist operational capability
  • National support for multi-state projects

We aim to provide the right aerial solution for the job, whether that means a cinema crew on a major television production, an FPV team for a commercial, recurring capture for a development or specialist data collection for a commercial site.

Planning a Drone Project in Melbourne

If you are preparing an enquiry, the most useful information to send us includes:

  • Project location or coordinates
  • Proposed date
  • Required deliverables
  • Shot list, storyboard or creative reference
  • Type of production or commercial project
  • Any known aircraft or camera requirements
  • Required altitude or RL for development work
  • Details of talent, vehicles or crowds
  • Location permissions already obtained
  • Any timing, access or safety restrictions

You do not need to have every detail finalised. For complex drones Melbourne projects, involving the aerial team early can help identify potential issues before production plans become fixed.
